Kilmar Abrego Garcia Cites Washington Post Article as Proof Costa Rica Willing to Receive Him After Deportation

Kilmar Abrego Garcia last week cited an article published by The Washington Post, which included a quote from a senior official in Costa Rica, as evidence the federal government was incorrect in informing U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, that Costa Rica was no longer willing to receive the alleged human smuggler upon his deportation.

“Petitioner Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia respectfully submits as further evidence in support of his habeas petition a Washington Post article published earlier today that confirms that Costa Rica remains willing to accept Abrego Garcia and offer him legal residency,” the attorneys wrote in their filing. “The article further reports that additional negotiations with the United States are not required.”

Mayor Credits Memphis Safe Task Force After City Sees Lowest Crime Rate Since at Least 2001

Mayor Paul Young credited the deployment of the Memphis Safe Task Force last week for the city’s recent decline in crime, noting in a newsletter released by his office that October’s crime total fell to a level not seen since at least 2001.

Calling it “remarkable progress,” the mayor announced, “In September of 2025, before the Memphis Safe Task Force, we saw the fifth lowest crime numbers in a single month in the past ten years. And in October, we saw the single lowest monthly total since 2001 — and likely before that, but our system can reliably confirm the numbers back to 2001.”

United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday that the U.S. is not at risk of a recession. 

“No. I am very confident about 2026. Because what we are going to see is the president’s done peace deals, tax deals, and trade deals, the One Big Beautiful Bill. And, you know, to go back to affordability, affordability has two components. So it’s price of goods and real income. So under the One Big Beautiful Bill, especially for working Americans, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security,” he said on NBC’s Meet the Press.

The Pentagon is launching an investigation into Arizona Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly after he appeared with other Democrats in a recent video explicitly urging military members to disobey “illegal” orders from the Trump administration, the Department of War announced Monday.

Kelly appeared with five fellow Democrats in the video telling service members their “trust” with the American people is at risk and urging them not to “give up the ship.” Kelly reminded members of the Armed Forces that they “swore an oath” and said they can “refuse illegal orders.” The clear implication was that such orders are being given by President Donald Trump, servicemembers should refuse to obey.

More than 250 Schoolchildren at Catholic School Abducted in Nigeria; 50 Escape Captivity

Gunmen have abducted 303 students and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, Nigeria, according to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). 

Officials originally estimated 215 students were taken, but a later “verification exercise and final census” increased the number after discovering that 88 pupils who tried to flee were captured, according to TIME.

U.S. to Skip Publication of Initial Third-Quarter GDP Estimate

The Wall Street Journal   The federal government will skip publication of its delayed initial estimate of third-quarter gross domestic product, instead aiming to get back on track with an update that remains to be rescheduled, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said Monday. The initial GDP estimate for the July-to-September quarter had been due on Oct. 30, but was delayed because of the government shutdown. A spokeswoman for the BEA, which is part of the Commerce Department, said she didn’t “have any additional information to share” on when the agency would publish its first look at the third-quarter GDP. TSA Expected to Screen 19.3M Travelers This Week

The Hill   Nearly 20 million people are projected to travel by air this week as officials brace for what some expect to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel week in 15 years. The Department of Transportation on Monday released its 2025 Thanksgiving week flight forecast, showing 19.3 million people projected to take flights in the seven-day period starting Monday and ending Sunday.   Friday is expected to be the busiest travel day, with 2.472 million people expected to fly. As more Americans return home after the holiday, 2.422 million are expected to fly Saturday, and 2.395 million are expected to fly Sunday, according to the Department of Transportation. State Representative Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville), who was named the “AOC of Tennessee” by Dickson County Democrats only days before she launched her congressional campaign, reportedly secured support from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to create a door knocking effort capable of contacting 40,000 voters in less than one week. 

According to a Friday report by Axios, the DNC confirmed the presence of national volunteers in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, where Democrats seek to flip a district that previously voted for former U.S. Representative Mark Green in a landslide last year. Republicans have nominated Matt Van Epps, a former veteran and Tennessee state official.
