Wisconsin Alternate Electors Case Followed Civil Suit Led by Lawyers Linked to J6 Committee Work, Public Calls for Trump Prosecution

While President Donald Trump earlier this month issued pardons for those who faced legal scrutiny by the Biden-era U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) after helping the president contest the 2020 election results, at least three who were pardoned continue to face prison in Wisconsin.

Though facing no federal charges, last year Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, filed charges against former Dane County Circuit Judge Jim Troupis, election attorney Kenneth Chesebro, and Republican opposition researcher Michael Roman, alleging they conspired to fabricate and submit a false electoral certificate, with the goal of confusing the certification process on January 6, 2021.

Judge Blasts DOJ for ‘Missteps’ in Comey Case

The judge overseeing the case against former FBI Director James Comey excoriated the Justice Department on Monday over its handling of grand jury proceedings.

“[T]he record points to a disturbing pattern of profound investigative missteps, missteps that led an FBI agent and a prosecutor to potentially undermine the integrity of the grand jury proceeding,” wrote Magistrate Judge William Fitzpatrick, according to the Associated Press.

Trump Admin Touts Drop in New Foreign Students

The Trump administration on Monday touted data from the Financial Times should that the number of new foreign students in America had dropped by 17% over the prior year.

The Rapid Response 47 account posted a chart showing a considerable drop from the prior year. The post came amid backlash from President Donald Trump renewing his support for allowing Chinese students to study in the United States.

Majority of Democrats Admit ‘Extreme Political Rhetoric’ Played Important Role in Charlie Kirk Assassination: Poll

The majority of Democrats agreed that “extreme political rhetoric” was a key catalyst in the Sept. 10 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, according to an NBC News poll released Monday.

In the newly released poll, 54% of Democrats said “extreme political rhetoric used by some in the media and by political leaders was an important contributor” to Kirk’s slaying. Meanwhile, 73% of Republicans and 53% of independent voters — about the same percentage as Democrats’ — said the same, according to the survey.

The incident is regaining new salience after recent revelations that DOJ special counsel Jack Smith cast a net of subpoenas for phone records of several GOP members of Congress and even obtained government phones that had belonged to President Donald Trump and his former vice president.

Trump Warns of Primary Challenges for Indiana Republicans Who Oppose Redistricting

President Donald Trump on Monday warned that he would endorse primary opponents for Indiana state GOP lawmakers who opposed redistricting the state amid a push from the White House for state Republicans to alter the maps to boost their chances of holding the House in 2026.

A number of Republican-led states, including Texas and Ohio, have moved to redraw their maps in a manner to favor the incumbent party. California, for its part, has responded with a redistricting bid of its own, hoping to negate the GOP changes. Indiana, thus far, has declined to alter its maps.

President Donald Trump on Sunday night said he may sit down with Democratic New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani in Washington D.C., telling reporters the avowed socialist “would like to meet with us.”

It’s unclear when the meeting might take place, but Mamdani has said he “continues to be interested” in speaking with Trump “on the ways in which we can work together to serve New Yorkers.” The pair exchanged blows throughout Mamdani’s successful mayoral campaign, with the 34-year-old referring to himself as Trump’s “worst nightmare” and the president calling Mamdani a “communist” and “total nutjob.”

Memphis Activist Claims Response to ‘Catch One in the Throat’ Comments About State Sen. Brent Taylor ‘Puts My Life in Danger’

A Memphis activist on Sunday claimed that her life was “in danger” after State Senator Brent Taylor (R-Memphis) shared her now-deleted post claiming he, “looks like he’s ready to catch one in he throat.”

The claim by L.J. Abraham, a Memphis activist who attended anti-police protests after the death of Tyre Nichols, came hours after Taylor shared her earlier post on social media, and reported that some contacted concerned her post was, “a possible reference to the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk who was assassinated with a bullet to the neck.”

Senators Ask Chief Judge on D.C. Circuit to Suspend James Boasberg Pending House Impeachment Vote

Washington Examiner    A group of Senate Republicans led by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) is pressing the federal judiciary to sideline Chief Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia while the House of Representatives considers whether to impeach him. The Republicans argue in a new letter that his handling of matters involving the FBI‘s pursuit of lawmakers’ phone records and other Trump-related matters has “undermined confidence” in the courts and requires immediate intervention. In a letter sent Monday to D.C. Circuit Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan, Sens. Schmitt, Mike Lee (R-UT), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Bill Hagerty (R-TN) urged the circuit judicial council to place Boasberg on administrative suspension. They told Srinivasan that the chief district judge “should be administratively suspended pending formal impeachment by the House of Representatives and, if impeached, an impeachment trial by the Senate.” Removal would require a two-thirds vote in the upper chamber. Florida Highway Patrol Arrests 6,200 Illegal Migrants in ICE Partnership

Breitbart   The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that troopers have arrested 6,200 illegal migrants during its partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this year. Florida Republican Gov. Ron De Santis had ordered the FHP to partner with ICE early this year, saying that state and local law enforcement agencies would be a “force multiplier” in deportations. “Interior enforcement atrophied under Biden so there will no doubt be a ramp up period,” DeSantis said in January, adding it is “all the more reason why states and localities need to assist the Trump administration with interior enforcement efforts.” READ THE FULL STORY

Supreme Court Turns Away Dispute over Pregame Prayer at High School Football Games

CBS News   The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up a legal fight involving a Christian school that wanted to broadcast a pregame prayer over the stadium loudspeaker before a championship football game, turning away a major religious liberty dispute on the heels of a 2022 decision involving prayer in schools. In rejecting the appeal, the high court will not reconsider a 25-year-old decision that found student-led and initiated prayer at football games unconstitutional. There were no noted dissents. The legal battle before the justices was brought by a Tampa-based Christian school that wanted to broadcast a brief prayer before a state championship football game through the stadium’s public-address system.
