President Trump wants to cut funding to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and require privatization of security operations at small airports.
The White House’s 2027 budget proposal, released Friday, proposes cutting $52 million from the agency’s funding, which officials created after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in an effort to ensure tighter airport security. The budget also suggests having small airports enroll in the Screening Partnership Program under which TSA pays for private screeners to work at airports.
“The airports that already use this program have demonstrated savings compared to Federal screening operations,” the budget proposal reads. “The move would yield cost savings compared to Federal screening and begin reform of a troubled Federal agency.”
