Commentary: Sanctuary Cities and States Must Comply with President Trump’s Illegal Immigration Policies or Lose Federal Funding

As the America First conservative Republican running for Congress in Tennessee’s 7th District, I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Donald J. Trump to secure our borders, deport illegal aliens and restore the rule of law.

Illegal immigration is not just a border problem. Illegal immigration threatens our safety, sovereignty and prosperity. One of the biggest drivers of this problem is the spread of sanctuary city and state policies — laws that shield illegal aliens from law enforcement, encourage child, human and drug trafficking, and intolerably burden schools, hospitals and taxpayers.

These policies are an affront to the rule of law. They shield criminals, drain public resources and put American families in danger. As your congressman, I will fight to end these sanctuary policies.

I am calling for additional federal laws to block sanctuary cities and states, and impose heavy fines, including withholding federal funding for jurisdictions who engage in this subversion of law. Cities and states should not be allowed to flout federal immigration laws without consequence. America will no longer tolerate breaking our laws.

If jurisdictions like Democrat-run Nashville don’t get with the program, they should be federally defunded. They are currently scorning state laws right here in Tennessee. Democrats like Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and “TN AOC” Aftyn Behn who interfere with ICE, should resign from their positions.

President Trump showed the way with executive actions targeting sanctuary jurisdictions. Now it is Congress’ job to finish the work and make sure no city or state can defy federal immigration laws without paying a price. Public safety should never take a back seat to political posturing.

We also must close the loopholes that fuel illegal immigration. My first bill in Congress will end the illegal alien birthright citizenship loophole — an incorrect interpretation of the 14th Amendment that rewards lawbreaking and encourages more illegal crossings. Ending automatic citizenship for children born to illegal aliens sends a clear message: America will no longer hand out benefits to those who break our laws.

This is about more than border security. It is about protecting our communities, cutting crime and saving billions of taxpayer dollars every year. Money now spent on health care, education and welfare for illegal aliens could instead go to veterans, seniors and children — or toward rebuilding infrastructure and paying down the national debt.

President Trump is right: to make America safe, we must permanently end illegal immigration. That starts with ending birthright citizenship, outlawing sanctuary policies and holding lawless politicians accountable. These steps are not just policy ideas — they are moral obligations.

Tennessee’s 7th District deserves a representative who will fight for the safety of our communities, the sovereignty of our country and the future of our children. I am ready to lead that fight in Congress — and I will not back down.
