ICE Files Detainer for Somali Immigrant Mohamed Mohamed After Arrest for Rape in Nashville

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DSCO) on Tuesday confirmed to The Tennessee Star that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filed an immigration detainer for Mohamed Mohamed, the native of Somalia who was arrested last week and charged with the rape of a 34-year-old woman who later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

After Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) confirmed on Monday that Mohamed was born in Somalia, a spokesman for DSCO told The Star the alleged rapist remains jailed in Nashville after his arrest, with the foreign national ineligible for release despite a magistrate judge setting his bond at $300,000.

“He has an active immigration detainer and will not be able eligible for bond release while the detainer is still active,” the DSCO spokesman told The Star.

The spokesman also confirmed Mohamed is currently housed at the Davidson County Male Correctional Development Center, located south of the Nashville International Airport.

According to ICE, an immigration detainer is filed “against potentially dangerous aliens who have been arrested by another law enforcement agency or are removable from the United States.”

The agency explains that the detainer instructs local authorities to retain custody over an individual, “for up to 48 hours beyond the time they would ordinarily release them,” so that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has time to assume custody in accordance with federal immigration law.”

Mohamed was originally arrested after members of the Nashville Fire Department allegedly spotted him sexually assaulting a woman near a Nashville church while responding to an unrelated call for service. The firemen reportedly restrained Mohamed until police arrived at the scene.

According to MNPD, Mohamed’s alleged victim appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol before the attack.

“She was unable to keep her balance and sat down on a step, appearing to be under the influence of some type of substance,” the MNPD said.

Police alleged, “Mohamed approached and sat down beside her. Mohamed made physical contact with the victim as she went in and out of consciousness as she tried to push him away. He ultimately lifted her off the steps, put her on the ground, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.”

The woman’s identity is currently being withheld by MNPD, who said she is “believed to have been homeless,” and reported that a police chaplain is working to locate her next of kin.

The Star contacted DHS and ICE to ask for additional information about Mohamed, including the circumstances and location by which he entered the United States, and whether the Trump administration intends to deport Mohamed back to Somalia, but did not receive an immediate response.

He needs his hinder thrown in prison for 50 years, not deportation. What a POS. If it was up to the democrats, they would send him to a therapist and then let him walk free.

Thank you ICE and Metro. Such a sad story. Nolensville Road and Antioch still need cleaning up. Please help us out there. Don’t forget South Nashville….
