The Tennessee Star on Monday learned from Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) that its records indicate Mohamed Mohamed, the alleged rapist arrested last week, was born in Somalia.
Mohamed was arrested on Thursday after members of the Nashville Fire Department allegedly witnessed him commit the sexual assault while driving to an unrelated call for service. MNPD explained the firefighters first restrained Mohamed before police arrived at the scene.
An MNPD spokesman told The Star, “We show his place of birth as Somalia.”
Davidson County Sheriff’s Office records show Mohamed was charged with four counts of rape and given a $75,000 bond for each charge by a magistrate judge, for a total bond of $300,000. He is currently ineligible for release due to a temporary hold because his charges relate to domestic violence.
His alleged victim was a 34-year-old woman, who authorities said “is believed to have been homeless,” and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol in security camera footage from prior to the attack. Her altered mental state led her to sit on the front steps of a church.

“Mohamed made physical contact with the victim as she went in and out of consciousness as she tried to push him away. He ultimately lifted her off the steps, put her on the ground, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her,” stated the department.
His alleged victim died after being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Hospital. MNPD stated in its press release that testing is being performed before attributing a cause of death.
Though identified through fingerprints, the woman’s identity has yet to be released by MNPD, who said a police chaplain is working to notify her next of kin.
MNPD referred The Star to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for information related to Mohamed’s entry to the United States. A press inquiry to DHS, seeking to ascertain when Mohamed entered the United States and whether he was legally in the country, did not receive an immediate response.
A state report released earlier this year revealed there were nine arrests or convictions of illegal immigrants for rape during the final three months of 2024, including three for the rape of a child.
