Tennessee U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced a bill supported by the White House on Thursday which seeks to expedite deportations of illegal aliens from the United States.
The two-page bill, called the Rapid Expulsion of Migrant Offenders who Violate and Evade (REMOVE) Act, would require the U.S. Attorney General to start removal proceedings as quickly as possible after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) files a Notice to Appear (NTA) with the immigration court.
The Attorney General would be required under the bill to begin the removal process of an illegal alien convicted of a deportable offense defined by the Immigration and Nationality Act “as expeditiously as possible” after the conviction.
The bill would mandate that all immigration court proceedings related to such cases must be completed within 15 days of their start; overriding provisions in the Immigration and Nationality Act such as section 208(d)(5)(A), which provides for an alien’s identity to be verified through all relevant government databases in asylum applications – a process that could last months.
“Under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, we saw the largest wave of illegal immigration in our nation’s history, forcing communities across Tennessee and America to bear the consequences,” Blackburn said in a statement.
“With a record number of illegal aliens now living in the United States, President Trump must have every tool necessary to remove them quickly from our country,” she added.
Stephen Miller, Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor, applauded the REMOVE Act and thanked Blackburn for her leadership on the legislation, calling it a “critical” tool to help the Trump administration fulfill its “mass deportation operation and get gang members, cartels, and violent criminals off the streets.”
“Under the Biden Administration, the American people witnessed a full-scale invasion of our country that directly threatened our national security and sovereignty. With untold millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. due to Democrats’ open-border policies, we must take strong, decisive measures to remove those who have been ordered to be removed from the United States,” Miller said.
Blackburn was joined by U.S. Senators Ted Budd (R-NC), Ashley Moody (R-FL), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) in filing the REMOVE Act.
