‘No New Property Tax’ Rally Happening Tonight Outside Metro Nashville Council Meeting

Conservative groups in Nashville are calling on Davidson County residents and any Tennesseans who are strongly against Metro Nashville raising property taxes to attend tonight’s “No New Property Tax” rally outside the Metro Courthouse.

The Metro Nashville Council is set to discuss an ordinance, BL2025-834, Tuesday to raise property tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year.

The proposed ordinance would increase the property tax rate in Nashville and Davidson County by approximately 26.64 percent.

An increase to the city’s property tax would mark the second time in five years that rates have increased, as Nashville’s last property tax increase of 34 percent in 2020 was the largest in the city’s history.

To voice their opposition to another increase to the property tax rate, the Nashville Tea Party has teamed up with Americans for Prosperity – Tennessee and the Davidson County Republican party to launch a “No New Taxes” campaign.

The groups first rallied against the new tax rate last month during Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s State of Metro address where he officially announced the increase and will rally again tonight before the Metro Council’s meeting.

Tonight’s rally will begin at 5:00 p.m. – one and a half hours before the Council will convene for its meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Ben Cunningham, founder of the Nashville Tea Party, said Tuesday’s Council meeting includes a mandatory public hearing for the budget, which allows residents to voice their concerns directly to council members for two uninterrupted minutes.

“If you’re a resident of Tennessee, you can speak. It’s better, of course, if you’re a resident of Davidson County, but if you’re motivated, please come out. Please come to the rally at the very least and help us raise our voices against this absurd 27 percent increase,” Cunningham said on Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
