President Trump Fires Biden-Appointed Beth Geer from TVA Board of Directors: Report

President Donald Trump reportedly fired another Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) board member this week, marking the third board member he has fired from the electric utility corporation since March.

As the nation’s largest federally owned electric utility corporation, TVA provides electricity for 153 local power companies serving approximately 10 million people across seven states. TVA also provides electricity directly to about 60 large industrial customers and federal installations.

TVA’s nine-member board is nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. Each member serves a term of five years.

TVA Board member Beth Geer, who was nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed to the role by the U.S. Senate in 2023, was fired from the board on Tuesday, according to a report by The Chattanooga Times Free Press, citing a TVA report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Geer (pictured above), who resides in Brentwood, previously worked in the Clinton administration and the U.S. Department of Labor in policy roles related to climate change and environmental justice. She has also served as former Vice President Al Gore’s chief of staff since 2012.

During her confirmation hearing in front of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Geer faced a harsh line of questioning from Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), who confronted the TVA nominee at the time over a tweet she published in 2015 calling Ernst’s response to President Obama’s State of the Union address “hideous.”

In March, Trump terminated the other two board members, Joe Ritch and L Michelle Moore, who, like Geer, were both appointed by Biden.

Trump’s termination of the TVA board members in March left the corporation with only four members, fewer than the minimum number required to approve new policies at quarterly public board meetings.

Geer’s termination now leaves TVA with three board members.

Trump has yet to announce additional appointments to the board.

TVA’s board shakeup comes as the corporation also underwent a leadership change earlier this year, with Jeff Lyash retiring as CEO and being succeeded in the role by Don Moul.

  1. TN Farmer

Scour ALL federal installations and institutions in our great state for those appointed by obama/biden/clinton. And remove them. Thank you

    Also:
( funny how these types reside in the most conservative towns and counties in TN )

  2. TVA NEEDS MORE OVERSIGHT

ALL TVA BOARD MEETINGS SHOULD BE TELEVISED.
Many would like to know why they allow homes to be built in such close proximity to the giant electrical poles.
They basically own all property within 75 ft of these giant structures.
People buy homes not knowing that the TVA has right of way 75 ft into their property.
TVA is a political tool used to harm political enemies. Must be stopped.
Perhaps they should appear before Congressional Committees to explain their plans to protect the Electrical Grid.
