Roger Simon, co-founder of PJ Media and author of the Substack “American Refugees,” said the feud between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk is nothing more than a predictable clash of powerful personalities, which appears intense at the moment, but will ultimately be resolved.
Simon argued that the break between Trump and Musk is “probably not irreparably broken” and compares the situation to the world of Hollywood and politics, noting that alliances often shift and so-called “marriages of convenience” are common.
“It’s probably not irreparably broken. Certainly, [the relationship] is in trouble in the short run, but these things tend to get healed. Hollywood, where I used to work, and politics are very similar that way. People have all kinds of marriages of convenience. This is not going to last the way it is. People are already stepping in all over the place, and you can see that Musk is starting to back up a little bit and Trump is not ready to forgive him until he backs up some more or time heals things. We will see what happens,” Simon said on Friday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
Simon characterized Musk as a complex figure, noting how the businessman is “nuts” but also “brilliant,” further suggesting that his unpredictable behavior stems from a likely bipolar personality.
“The truth of the matter about Musk is he’s nuts. On the other hand, he’s brilliant. He is not the first person in history like that. He’s obviously extremely bipolar,” Simon said.
Simon, however, emphasized that Musk needs Trump more than Trump needs Musk, as Musk’s power, particularly his influence through Tesla and SpaceX, remains politically vulnerable, and maintaining favor with Trump could serve his long-term interests.
“Musk desperately wants to maintain his power, and much of his power is Tesla,” he explained.
Overall, Simon dismissed much of the media coverage surrounding Trump and Musk’s feud, saying it is designed more to fill headlines than to reflect a meaningful shift.
“Believe it or not, I don’t think it’s a very big deal. It’s fun to observe and it fills up the New York Post for another week,” he said.
