The Justice Department’s top civil rights lawyer believes the Trump administration’s lawsuit this week against the city of Denver’s gun ban will one day soon lead to a Supreme Court decision legalizing the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle – revered by gun owners and reviled by liberals – in every jurisdiction in America.

Gas Prices Top $4.50 a Gallon, Reaching Highest Level Since July 2022

BREAKING NEWS

CBS News   Gasoline prices across the U.S. surged to an average of $4.54 a gallon on Wednesday, the highest since July 2022, according to AAA data. The price of regular gas has jumped 52%, or $1.56 per gallon, since the start of the Iran war in late February, as disruptions to oil flows in the Middle East drive up costs for motorists. The cost is approaching the highest-ever gas price, when it reached $5.02 a gallon in June 2022 during a pandemic-era spike in inflation. Fuel costs climbed even as oil prices edged lower Wednesday on renewed hopes for a U.S.-Iran agreement, highlighting a disconnect between crude markets and what drivers pay at the pump. Lingering worries about supply disruptions, coupled with signs of broader violence in the Middle East, have pushed fuel costs higher over the past week. READ THE FULL STORY

Airfare is taking off as the Iran war drives up jet fuel costs, with travelers now facing steeper prices heading into the summer travel season.

Fuel is one of airlines’ largest operating expenses, according to the World Air Transport Statistics (WATS), and higher costs are increasingly being passed on to travelers through higher fares, added fees and fewer flight options.

Indiana Republicans Who Did Not Support State’s Redistricting Effort Suffer Primary Defeats

Indiana Republicans

At least five of the seven Republican Indiana state senators whom President Donald Trump targeted for defeat lost their reelection bids Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.

The president had endorsed primary challengers against seven of the 21 Republicans in the Indiana state Senate who voted in December 2025 to block a redistricting effort backed by Trump and Gov. Mike Braun that would have likely flipped both of the state’s Democratic-held seats to the GOP in the midterms. Of the Trump-backed outsiders, five were able to pull of victories in a state the president carried by 19 points in 2024, with one race too close to call as of Wednesday morning — a positive early sign of Trump’s influence over his party’s electorate as November approaches.

U.S. Spending Outpaces Wealth Taxes, Tariffs, and Rate Hikes: Report

Congress Money

No tax proposal before Congress would be sufficient on its own to put the federal debt on a sustainable long-term path, according to a new report from the Tax Foundation that finds spending on programs such as Social Security and Medicare is projected to outpace revenues for decades.

The report, “Can Tax Reform Solve the Debt Problem – or Just Slow It?”, released in April by the Washington-based Tax Foundation, simulated nine major tax proposals and found that even the largest tax increases would fail to close the primary deficit over the long run.

Commentary: The Rise of Lawfare Candidates

Ryan Crosswell

One of the beneficiaries of Virginia’s aggressive attempt to gerrymander the state for Democratic advantage could be a former federal prosecutor whose campaign for Congress hinges on his efforts to use the law to target President Trump and his supporters.

When a slim majority of Virginia voters gave the legislature authority last month to create congressional districts that could give Democrats a 10-1 advantage, J.P. Cooney cheered the  outcome in a message on social media, boasting that the new district he was running in had been drawn “expressly for the purpose of standing up to Donald Trump’s and MAGA’s corruption.”
