Two employees of billionaire Elon Musk’s tunneling company, the Boring Company, volunteered with Operation Stand Down Tennessee last week, serving lunch to veterans in Nashville.
The Boring Company’s Isaac Aronson and Thomas Cleary handed out fresh hot meals to veterans at Operation Stand Down Tennessee’s Nashville location.
Operation Stand Down Tennessee partners with the Nashville Food Project to hand out hot meals every week to veterans at the veteran-serving agency’s Nashville Service Center located at 1125 12th Avenue South.
The Boring Company’s involvement with local Nashville organizations comes as the company has broken ground on its Music City Loop project, which will initially connect the Nashville International Airport with the city’s downtown area through an underground tunnel network.
Last week, the tunneling company said the “majority of current work” remains in the planning stage, including “permits, land agreements, station designs, contracts, final plan/profile alignment, detailed geological studies, and community engagement.”
Tunneling for the project, which will be fully funded by the Boring Company and come at no cost to Tennessee taxpayers, is expected to begin by the end of the year.
Operation Stand Down Tennessee thanked the Boring Company employees for their volunteer work, writing in a Facebook post, “Your support helps fuel our mission to Engage, Equip, and Empower those who served.”
“We are grateful for your time, energy, and generosity,” the organization added.
Operation Stand Down Tennessee was recently awarded a grant worth more than $1.1 million by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to assist veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The grant, awarded through the VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, was among the more than $818 million awarded to 235 organizations across the country.
