Summertown Metals announced on Wednesday that the company is expanding its operations in Tennessee.
The company’s expansion will be its first venture outside of Middle Tennessee.
Summertown Metals creates metal building solutions for pole barns and barndominiums.
The company will invest $22.6 million in Hamblem County. According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s press release, this investment will create 170 new jobs.
Upon completion of the new facility’s construction, the company will employ approximately 600 people in Tennessee.
Matt Stoll, Summertown Metals’ CEO, said the company is “excited” about its new East Tennessee location.
“We are committed to continuing to provide exceptional value to everyone we are privileged to serve, along with providing so many new career opportunities. We also appreciate the warm welcome by the Morristown community,” he said.
Gov. Bill Lee said Tennessee is “shaped” by brands like Summertown Metals. He thanked the company for its “continued investment” in Tennessee. Lee also said he looks “forward to the opportunity these new jobs create across East Tennessee.”
TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter stated that Hamblen County’s “diligent leadership” and close location to educational institutions will continue the company’s success for “years to come.”
Hamblen County Mayor Chris Cutshaw explained that the county was “ecstatic” that the company chose Morristown and Hamblen County as another location.
“The site chosen is adjacent to the interstate and also part of the redevelopment of our Lowland area makes it a great fit for everyone. Summertown Metals, we are glad you are here with your many great products and in the words of Summertown Metals, ‘Building Dreams That Last,’” he noted.
The mayor of Morristown, Gary Chesney, echoed similar comments.
Chesney said that Morristown was “excited” to be chosen by Summertown Metals. He added that he looks forward to the impact the company will have on the town’s community.
As of April, Morristown has an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent. For Hamblen County, the jobless rate is 3 percent.
