U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced last week the appointments for the Tennessee state directors of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Rural Development (RD).
These two state directors are important in implementing President Donald Trump’s agenda. FSA state directors enact the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s policies in planning, organizing, and administering FSA programs through state offices nationwide.
State directors for RD support the Trump administration’s mission by seeking ways to help rural America and its economic prosperity.
“When America’s farming communities prosper, the entire nation thrives. This new group of USDA appointees will ensure President Trump’s America First agenda is a reality in rural areas across the country. I am grateful for the leadership of these new state directors and look forward to their work reorienting the agency to put Farmers First again,” said Rollins.
USDA selected Mike Mayfield as Tennessee’s FSA state director. Mayfield served in this same position during the first Trump administration. He spent 35 years as a county director in Giles County. Mayfield owns and operates the Mayfield Angus Farm.
The USDA selected Patrick Jaynes as Tennessee’s RD state director. Jaynes was a senior consultant at Jigsaw Consulting and previously worked on former Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander’s staff for 18 years.
After the announcement, the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation (TFBF) celebrated the appointments.
“Congratulations to Tennessee’s new state directors for Farm Service Agency and Rural Development! Eager to work with these gentlemen for the benefit of rural communities and agriculture across the Volunteer State,” the TFBF said.
TFBF is America’s largest farm bureau with almost 700,000 members. This bureau started in 1921.
