President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA-04) are expected to join Matt Van Epps for a third tele-rally on Monday, Axios reported on Friday, adding that the president will urge Republicans to vote just one day before Election Day, on December 2.
The outlet was first to report that Trump will join Van Epps for a tele-rally on Monday, but the Van Epps campaign confirmed on Friday that Johnson will join Van Epps to campaign in the district, including two Get Out the Vote rallies on Monday in Franklin and Clarksville.
“The Matt Van Epps for Congress campaign will hold Get Out the Vote rallies throughout the district on Monday, December 1st, with Speaker Mike Johnson and various statewide and local elected officials joining Van Epps on the trail,” his campaign announced. “Their presence highlights the importance of getting out the vote for the December 2nd special election.”
In addition to Johnson, the campaign listed the following speakers for the rallies: Governor Bill Lee, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and U.S. Representatives Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), and John Rose (R-TN-6).
Blackburn and Rose will notably attend the event together, in an apparent show of Republican unity, despite both seeking voters’ support to become Tennessee’s next governor.
Trump most recently rallied with Van Epps earlier this month, when the president warned Van Epps’ Democratic opponent, State Representative Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville), “is a left-wing lunatic” who has “been called the AOC of Tennessee because of how radical left and dangerous her polices are.”
The president held his first tele-rally with Tennessee Republicans shortly after endorsing Van Epps ahead of the October primary contest.
“I think they’ve lost their minds, but we have to keep the momentum going, that’s why we have to elect Matt Van Epps to Congress, and I think he’s going to have a tremendously successful run,” said Trump at the time.
Election Day voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday to fill the seat vacated by the mid-term retirement of former Representative Mark Green, who won the district in a 20-point landslide last year.
