U.S. Death Toll in Iran War Rises to Six as Trump Says Campaign Could Last Five Weeks

BREAKING NEWS

CBS News   The U.S. military said Monday that the number of Americans killed during the ongoing war with Iran now stands at six, following the recovery of the remains of two service members who were previously unaccounted for. President Trump said the war was the “last best chance” of addressing the threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missiles and nuclear program, and that the campaign could last four to five weeks with the “capability to go far longer than that.” He told the New York Post he will not rule out sending ground troops into Iran if necessary. Earlier in the day, Kuwait shot down three U.S. F-15 jets in what the military called a “friendly fire incident.” All crew members are safe. Judge Again Blocks Noem Restrictions on Lawmakers’ ICE Facility Visits

BREAKING NEWS

The Hill   A federal judge again struck down a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy seeking to block lawmakers from making unannounced visits to immigration detention facilities. U.S. District Court Judge Jia Cobb on Monday found the latest iteration of an order from Secretary Kristi Noem requiring lawmakers to give seven days notice before visiting a facility also ran afoul of a prior appropriations law, which forbids funds from being used to bar impromptu congressional visits. Cobb in December had struck down a similar policy, prompting Noem to issue a new order in January, claiming that only funds from President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill (OBBBA) would be used to enforce the policy at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities. U.S. Aims to Bring in 4,500 White South Africans Per Month as Refugees, Document Says

BREAKING NEWS

Reuters   The U.S. aims to process 4,500 refugee applications from white South Africans per month, far above President Donald Trump’s stated refugee program cap, and is installing trailers on embassy property in Pretoria to support the effort, a U.S. contracting document said. The new target, contained in a previously unreported document from the U.S. State Department dated January 27, signals a push to ramp up admissions from South Africa, while refugee applications from other areas have been severely curtailed. Trump has said the U.S. would only admit ‌7,500 total refugees from around the world in fiscal year ‌2026, while a much higher cap of 40,000 to 60,000 was discussed internally last year. Only 2,000 white South Africans had entered the U.S. as refugees as of January 31 under a program launched in May 2025, although the pace has picked up in recent months. READ THE FULL STORY

DHS Funding Remains in Limbo as GOP Lawmakers Warn of Retaliatory Terror Attacks

Kristi Noem

Congress remains deadlocked on funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as GOP lawmakers warn of heightened threats to the U.S. in the aftermath of Saturday’s Iran strikes.

Republican lawmakers such as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and New York Rep. Andrew Garbarino, who chairs the Homeland Security committee, have highlighted the necessity of DHS funding over concerns of potential retaliatory terror attacks.
