Analysis: 14 States Allow Mail-In Ballots to Count Even After Election Day

Mail-In Ballot

The Supreme Court indicated Monday it may restrict laws in 14 states allowing mail-in ballots received after polls close to count.

During oral arguments for Watson v. Republican National Committee (RNC), multiple justices questioned the reasoning of a Mississippi law which allows mail-in ballots received up to five days after the close of polls to count, as long as they have been postmarked by Election Day. The Court is expected to rule on the case by the end of June, the Associated Press (AP) reported, and its decision has the potential to affect not just Mississippi but the other 13 mostly blue states that have similar late ballot deadline laws on the books.

NASA Unveils Ambitious $20 Billion Plan to Build Moon Base

BREAKING NEWS

CBS News   NASA announced ambitious long-range plans Tuesday to spend $20 billion over the next seven years to build a moon base near the lunar south pole featuring habitats, pressurized rovers and nuclear power systems. The announcement came just over a week before the planned launch of NASA’s Artemis II around-the-moon mission. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman kicked off a series of meetings with contractors at NASA Headquarters in Washington saying he envisioned launching two moon landing missions per year to establish semi-permanent astronaut occupation on the lunar surface to explore, conduct research and develop the technology needed for eventual flights to Mars. “This revised, step-by-step approach to learn, to build muscle memory, to bring down risk and gain confidence is exactly how NASA achieved the near impossible in the 1960s,” he said, referring to the agency’s Apollo program. “But this time, the goal is not flags and footprints. This time, the goal is to stay. READ THE FULL STORY

Iran’s Flex of Long-Range Ballistic Missiles Vindicates Trump, May Change European Calculus

Trump Iran

With Iran’s launch of two long-range missiles on Friday, putting nearly all of Europe in striking distance, the regime showed that it possesses a capability that President Donald Trump previously cited as a key justification for the U.S. conflict with the Islamic Republic after years of denying it publicly.

Iran fired the intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) at the joint U.S.-U.K. airbase on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, more than 2,000 miles from Tehran, on the same day that the British government gave the United States the green light to use the facility to launch strikes on Iran.

Mark Pulliam: Tennessee Bill Is ‘First Step’ to Build Case Against SCOTUS’ Landmark Immigration Ruling

Teacher and student

As the Tennessee General Assembly advances amended legislation requiring schools to collect anonymized citizenship data, legal commentator and retired attorney Mark Pulliam said the effort could lay the groundwork for a broader constitutional challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Plyler v. Doe.

The revised version of House Bill 0793, introduced by House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland), removes earlier provisions that would have allowed school districts to deny enrollment or charge tuition to illegal alien students. Instead, it focuses solely on requiring schools to gather and report anonymized citizenship data to the state.

Commentary: AI Innovation Cannot Come at the Expense of Our Children

kid phone

Artificial intelligence is often described as a breakthrough technology with enormous potential. In many cases, that promise is real. Innovation can improve lives, expand economic opportunity and help us address challenges that once seemed impossible to solve. But as we discuss the opportunities AI presents, we must also be honest about the risks that accompany it.

One system drawing increasing scrutiny is Grok, an artificial intelligence tool embedded within the social media platform X. Unlike traditional internet platforms that primarily host content created by their users, Grok generates images in response to prompts. Recent reporting suggests that the system has been used to create sexually explicit images of real people without their consent. Most troubling of all, this includes images involving minors.

Commentary: Protect Housing Market from Biden Era Credit Policies

home for sale

Investors joke that owing a bank $100,000 means the bank owns you, but owing $1 million means you own the bank because it can’t afford to let you default. Large loans pose big risks, requiring lenders to minimize exposure. A misguided, Biden-era proposal to weaken mortgage credit reporting—by allowing fewer than three credit bureau reports—threatens borrowers and the housing market. The FHFA should reject this change and uphold the tri-merge standard for responsible mortgage underwriting.

Housing loans account for as much as a third of many Americans’ budgets, making them the single largest expense for almost every borrower. Banks and other lenders want to make certain that a borrower can repay a loan before extending credit; it’s that simple.
