New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday was reported to be indicted by a federal grand jury in Virginia for bank fraud. The indictment arrives months after she was reported to be under investigation for possible mortgage fraud.
The indictment comes nearly two months after U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Special Attorney for Mortgage Fraud Ed Martin sent a letter to James attorney, Abbe Lowell, which strongly urged the Democrat to resign from office amid the probe investigating whether she illegally misrepresented her primary residence on mortgage loan applications in order to secure more favorable interest rates.
In his August 12 letter, Martin told James’ attorney that the attorney general’s resignation, “would best serve the ‘good of the state and nation’ by resigning from office to address the issues in the referral.”
Martin wrote, “Her resignation from office would give the people of New York and America more peace than proceeding. I would take this as an act of good faith.”
While Martin asked James’ attorney not to release the letter, it was obtained by The Associated Press later that month.
The indictment of James also follows the recent appointment to the Eastern District of Virginia of U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, an ally of President Donald Trump who was reported this week to be presenting evidence to a grand jury.
Halligan’s office did not immediately respond to a press inquiry from The Tennessee Star.
James previously brought a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump in 2022, and New York Judge Arthur Engoron decided in the state’s favor in 2024, imposing a fine that exceeded $450 million after the president was accused of submitting false financial information to obtain more favorable loans.
The DOJ was also reported in August to be investigating James to determine whether this civil case might have constituted a violation of Trump’s civil rights.
James’ case follows the recent not guilty pleading of former FBI Director James Comey, who was indicted last month for allegedly lying to Congress.

‘no one is above the law’ – right?
If the Democrats were smart they would figure out that everything they tried to do to him is coming back on them.
Reckon they ever figure out there’s more at play in this game than they recognize.
As long as the Church is still here, God will provide a man to carry out his will.
Personally, I think that “Last Trump” could have a dual meaning,
We are in the last few seconds of time.
James is a waste of a CO2 footprint.
I find it humorous (and totally expected) that the donks accuse the Trump admin of attacking the people who brought frivolous law suits against him accusing him of retribution. Hey, all you clueless useful idiots, the people who are found to be accused of breaking the law by a grand jury….are you ready for it…..BROKE THE LAW.
