Commentary: The Democrat Plan for 2029 Is Taking Shape

“There will be no post-presidential peace for Donald Trump,” boomed The New Republic last week.

In a lengthy piece on why the president should not expect to enjoy a restful retirement, Matt Ford laid out Donald Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors—mostly high crimes—and accused him of having “excited domestic insurrections against us,” in the grave words of the Founding Fathers.

The shuttering of the Kennedy Center may be the least of Trump’s second-term sins. In the first year since returning to power, Trump and his subordinates have pushed the country toward fascism and oligarchy. He has turned Washington into an orgy of corruption and self-dealing beyond even the most cynical observer’s imagination. He has transformed Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol into a lawless paramilitary force that has besieged American cities and killed at least five U.S. citizens and 22 foreign nationals. He has abused Americans and their immigrant neighbors alike simply because he can.

Ford treats Trumpism, not just Trump himself, as a cancer on the body politic that requires radical, life-saving surgery to remove:

a broader, all-of-society effort will be necessary to tear the roots of Trumpism out of the nation’s political system—an effort that uses every tool possible to achieve a measure of justice.

That “all-of-society” effort can begin when the Democrats take back Congress in the midterms, starting with impeachment. But beyond that, there will need to be “civil lawsuits, professional sanctions, restrictive acts of Congress, and the enforcement of international law against Trump administration officials by long-standing American allies.”

Ford’s boldest suggestion is that Trump could one day be hunted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague and put on trial like a Serbian war criminal or a deposed African dictator.

A problem: the U.S. has never recognized the ICC. And it’s hard to imagine, even in a post-Trump world, an allied nation like the U.K. or France essentially black-bagging a former U.S. president.

Ford acknowledges this, but he still thinks pressure from the Hague would be salutary. It would make Trump hesitate, say, to travel to Scotland to enjoy a few holes at his golf course if he thought there was a chance, even a slim chance, he could be arrested and extradited to the Netherlands.

Anything to make President Trump’s life less comfortable.

Matt Ford’s article is, in many ways, a fever dream of the kind that has had libtards frothing at the mouth since FBI special counsel Robert Mueller began his investigation into Trump’s alleged ties to Vladimir Putin.

Retribution is coming . . .

Of course, retribution did come, even if it wasn’t what Mueller’s fanboys and girls promised. President Trump’s first presidency was largely sabotaged by the Russiagate scandal and the machinations of RINOs and deep-state operatives. And when he left office in 2021, he was pursued relentlessly with criminal and civil trials and dragged through the mud in the liberal media, which encouraged the hysterical belief that Trump was an American Caesar, ready to cross the Rubicon—until two assassination attempts during the 2024 election campaign.

What marks the plan this time around—and there is a plan—is its depth. For all their viciousness and determination, Trump’s opponents responded to events as much as dictating them, or at least that’s how it felt. There was always something of an ad hoc feel to their attempts to derail his presidency and then prevent him from being reelected. Increasingly, as it became clearer they weren’t going to be able to stop Trump, there was a desperation too.

Now, the Democrats won’t be leaving anything to chance.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker called the plan “Project 2029,” in an obvious nod to the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025,” whose specter—Mass deportations! A pornography ban! The end of birthright citizenship!—stalked the 2024 election.

Pritzker and President Trump clashed head-on over Operation Midway Blitz, last year’s surge of law enforcement, immigration officers, and federal troops to the Chicago area.

Pritzker accused federal agents of “acting like jackbooted thugs” and “waging war on our people” and did his best to tie the Trump admin up in lawsuits. He was largely successful: Trump was forced to draw back his troops.

The interviewer asked Pritzker if there were lessons to be learned from President Trump’s second term.

Pritzker: “If there’s a lesson, it’s that there should be a Project 2029 for Democrats. Now, remember: Project 2025 also included taking away people’s rights and freedoms. It included tearing down the safety net that holds up our working families, and that stands up for the most vulnerable in our society. So there are things about the agenda that I think are reprehensible and anti-democratic. But yes, the speed of the agenda—and it’s not shock and awe so much as when you run and win on an agenda, you can accomplish that agenda and need to do it as soon as possible.”

Interviewer: “What does a Project 2029 agenda look like for you?”

Pritzker: “I don’t think you can speak of it in shorthand, but we’ve got to restore the rule of law, and that means holding people accountable who’ve broken the law. I’m talking about the people in this administration who’ve broken the law and federal agents who’ve broken the law.”

Interviewer: “That means criminally prosecuted?”

Pritzker: “Criminally prosecuted, civilly prosecuted. Whatever it is that we can do. Right? It may be that you can’t criminally prosecute somebody, but that you can go after them civilly.”

After the interview, Fox News contacted Pritzker’s office to ask exactly which members of the Trump administration the governor wanted to pursue. Pritzker’s office responded with a press release from January naming Gregory Bovino, Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, Kristi Noem, Tricia McLaughlin, Tom Lyons, Rodney Scott, and Corey Lewandowski as individuals who should be held accountable for their role in “escalation” during Operation Midway Blitz.

Just the other day, Axios reported on Democrat planning for after the midterms. As well as hunting Trump and members of the administration, senior Democrats want to use control of Congress to begin proceedings against companies, colleges, and law firms that supported Trump or simply made their peace with him.

Preliminary discussions are already said to have taken place between Senators Adam Schiff, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Richard Blumenthal. Among other things, they want to investigate why companies chose to work with the Trump administration, donations for the new White House East Wing, funding agreements with universities, and settlements by corporations like Paramount, which Senator Chris Murphy called an “anti-democratic information conglomerate” and vowed to “break up.”

Representative Pramila Jayapal said only a handful of companies will need to be made an example of to bring the rest into line.

‘I don’t think you can do like 100 [companies] but I think you can do three and start with that.’

The Democrats’ aim, clearly, is not just to punish Trump and senior members of his administration, but, as Matt Ford says, “to tear the roots of Trumpism out of the nation’s political system.” That goal is systematic, not just personal.

For some years, we’ve heard talk of “Trumpification” as a kind of parallel of “de-Nazification” in post-War Germany or what was done in Iraq after the toppling of Saddam Hussein. Its proponents were easy to dismiss as deranged Never-Trumpers or victims of TDS, their fragile minds irretrievably warped or even shattered. Their ideas are still deranged—but they’re also dangerously close to being implemented.

  1. The Professor

Oh my, how far the democrat party has fallen. When did it start? During the Clinton years when Bill’s focus was on an intern? It is true, 9-11 cold have been averted had the US had president who could have taken out Bin Laden long before the fateful terrorist attack. During the President George W Bush administration, the democrats were focused on trying to disrupt him to the detriment of the country? Did it start when Barry Obama, the divider in chief, brought his racism into the Oval Office? Did it start with his campaign inference in 2016? I believe it is safe to say the democrats did everything to block or disrupt President Trump during his first term? Then it continued through the 2020 election and on to today. The democrats of today; Biden, Obama, Clinton(s) Schumer, Jeffries, Crockett, Warren, Pelosi and Newsom have directly led to the failing democrat party. They are a troubled lot, and contrary to Ford’s delusional belief, they will not take the House nor the Senate in the midterms. Democrat conduct has almost assured a Republican in the White House for the next 11 to 17 years.

  2. No wonder democrats have the mentality they have.

When you look at the dribble they take as fact, I too would feel the same way if I only listened to the ones in this bubble of intelligence.

The only problem is this stuff is all a pile of doggy doo doo.

I am not American but Canadian. I like to keep watch on the news and look at all sides as I dont have a dog in the race, but I can tell you that this, and all other other crap portrayed by news outlets like this is bullsheet.

How can a sane person actually think this is real? You must also believe the Russia hoax from his first term and all those felony convictions?

Well, if you look elsewhere, even places like CNN you will find stories on how the Russia thing was an actual hoax paid for by Hillary.

Also, all those felonies will be gone once they get through appeals courts. It was all a scam. Democrat donor judge, DNC daughter helping father, democrat DA, democrat jury all worked together to get convictions before the election thinking it would sink him. They all knew it wouldn’t hold on appeal, but by then he would have lost the election, but, it didn’t work. On appeal, the evidence allowed that had nothing to do with anything, while not allowing real evidence in, will doom these convictions, and they knew it, but for some reason, democrat nutjobs couldn’t.

Doesn’t matter what you think, as everything you thought has proved wrong already.

Why, will the Biden DOJ trying everything, with news media doing everything, with everything against Trump, nothing worked, why? Because it was all crap.

Ya, I bet you believe Trump is all over Epstine also right, wrong. Nothing shows anything like that. Do you really thing that with everything they have thrown at Trump since 2015, do you really think if he was guilty of anything they wouldn’t have released it long ago?

You people need to ground yourselves as nothing can move forward for the best if you are in lala land.

    Wake up, Mooly, Mooly.

Mathew Ford is a fecking boob!

  4. Democrats are just hateful and delusional. progressivism and left leaning politics have destroyed Europe and now they’re trying to do the same with the US. anybody that votes Democratic I’m sorry to say is mentally ill and relies on their emotions way too much.
