Amelia Knisely, the Tennessean reporter whose March 8 story titled “Racist incidents are occurring in Williamson schools,”  was discredited by the subsequent Tennessee Star article on March 15, “Williamson County Parent of Sunset Middle School Student Says Alleged ‘Racist Incident’ at School Claimed by Tennessean Never Happened,” went on a self described “rage tweet” on Monday morning about the two stories. “A thread of Monday rage: I don’t normally feel inclined to respond to @tnstar “reporting,” but a story has come out discrediting my story about the racist ‘wall incident’ at Sunset Middle,” Knisely, who “Prior to moving to Tennessee, Amelia was a television reporter and producer in West Virginia. She holds a master’s degree from Marshall University,” according to her Tennessean bio, tweeted. Her bio also notes that, “She previously served as editor of The Contributor in Nashville, and she has written extensively on poverty and homelessness.” At the end of her “rage tweets,” Knisely apologized for directing her tweets to @tnstar, rather then the Twitter account of The Tennessee Star, which is @TheTNStar. “Ah, yes, sorry @tnstar as you are not the @TheTNStar. A federal lawsuit filed by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and others against the state of Tennessee and Gov. Bill Lee (R) has been dismissed by a panel of federal judges. 

Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP, et.al. v. William B. Lee was filed by a “coalition of civil rights organizations and Tennessee voters filed a federal lawsuit against Tennessee’s Governor, Secretary of State, Coordinator of Elections, and the State Election Commission and its members challenging the state’s enacted congressional and state Senate districts as unconstitutional racial gerrymanders and as intentionally racially discriminatory,” according to a case summary.

Tennessee AG Joins Lawsuit Against DHS Program to Grant ‘Parole in Place’ to Illegal Aliens

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti was one of the state attorneys general who joined a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new program process to allow hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who are the spouse or stepchild of a U.S. citizen to “parole in place.”

The 56-page complaint, filed in the Eastern District of Texas U.S. District Court on Friday, challenges DHS’ “Keeping Families Together” program, which began accepting applications on Monday.

Man Drowns After Shootout with Tennessee County Deputies

A man drowned after a highway pursuit and gun fight with Chester County and other law enforcement entities, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). 

“Preliminary information indicates the incident originated in Chester County near Henderson when a Chester County Deputy initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle driving recklessly at approximately 9:15 a.m.,” according a TBI release. “The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the driver briefly stopped and presented a weapon, pointing it at deputies, and causing the deputies to fire their service weapons.”

DOJ Launches Investigation into Tennessee’s Largest Prison for Alleged Sexual Abuse, Assault

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Tuesday that it would investigate Tennessee’s largest prison for rampant assaults, sexual abuse and murders, according to a press release.

The DOJ is launching an investigation into Trousdale Turner Correctional Center, a private prison opened by CoreCivic in 2016 and the largest prison in the state, after reports of sexual and physical abuse inside the prison, according to the press release. The prison allegedly had 196 assaults, two murders and 90 cases of sexual assault reported from July 2022 to June 2023, according to The Washington Post.

Ten additional states have joined a lawsuit led by Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) against Live Nation Entertainment, Inc., which owns Ticketmaster. The lawsuit alleges that the company has “illegally monopolized the live entertainment industry.”

In May, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and the DOJ filed an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation, alleging that the company holds venues “hostage” through “restrictive long-term, exclusive agreements and threats,” “forces artists to select Live Nation as a promoter instead of its rivals” through leverage of its extensive network of amphitheaters, and “harms” fans through “higher fees, lack of transparency, fewer consumer choices, and stifling innovation.”

Lawmakers Demand Investigation into U.S. Drug Companies Who Reportedly Worked with Chinese Military

A group of bipartisan lawmakers are demanding an investigation into U.S. drug companies with reportedly troubling ties to China, according to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The lawmakers raised alarm to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a Monday letter that they had identified some U.S. pharmaceutical companies as having worked with the Chinese military, raising concerns that U.S. intellectual property is being siphoned off by Beijing. The lawmakers also pointed out that several U.S. pharmaceutical companies also conducted clinical trials in the Xinjiang province of China, a region known for “genocide” against religious minorities, according to a letter sent by the lawmakers to the agency.

Despite previously blaming Tennessee’s “white patriarchy” for blocking the implementation of red flag laws and other gun control legislation last year, on Monday the Democrat challenging Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional district for the Volunteer State’s  “generations of responsible gun owners,” and suggested federal gun control legislation she would only target “irresponsible” gun owners.

Gun control activist Maryam Abolfazli, who received the Democratic Party’s nomination to challenge Ogles earlier this month, made the remarks to WLPN News.
